Frequently Asked Questions

threeMessenger

Q. Why do the system requirements say "USB Port Required"? I thought this was a software only application.
A. threeMessenger Server requires an available USB Port for the security key that will be mailed to you upon registering. The security key is a hardware software protection system that is required for threeMessenger to continue to function. The key prevents the software and registration information from being transferred to other users who did not pay for the software and allows us to keep our costs, and therefore prices, low.
Q. In order to properly evaluate the application, it would be very helpful to have more than 10 client licenses in the evaluation version. Is this possible?
A. Of course. Please contact us using info@threeforkssoftware.com and we can help you with an evaluation version offering more client licenses than the default.
Q. If I purchase the Standard Edition and decide to upgrade to the Professional Edition, what will I have to pay?
A. If you choose to upgrade within one year of your purchase date, you will be charged the difference in the two editions as well as the difference in cost of client licenses purchased originally. After one year of your purchase, you will have to purchase a version upgrade as well as an edition upgrade.
Q. If I only want to use the product inside my office, do I need an internet connection?
A. No. threeMessenger will operate on a LAN (Local Area Network) without any internet connection whatsover. The computer threeMessenger Server is installed on must have a static LAN IP address however. If you have remote users, users that travel or separate office locations, you will have to have a static WAN IP address for threeMessenger Server in order for all remote users to access the server.
Q. How does threeMessenger work with Firewalls?
A. The threeMessenger Client sends all communication to the server to establish the connection. This method bypasses local firewalls as outgoing messages are generally allowed with no problems. threeMessenger Server accepts connections and communication from all clients on a single TCP/IP port (8008 by default) and must have access to incomming packets on the port designated for use during setup.
Q. If I want to purchase threeMessenger Enterprise and already have a full version of SQL Server 2005, will threeMessenger Enterprise still operate correctly or must I install another instance of SQL Server 2005 Express?
A. Yes. threeMessenger will operate under your existing instance of SQL Server 2005 and you will not have to install SQL Server 2005 Express. In this case, contact us in advance for detailed instructions for seting up SQL Server for threeMessenger.
Q. Will threeMessenger Enterprise function on existing older versions of SQL Server such as SQL Server 2000?
A. While not supported, there are enough similarities between accessing a SQL Server 2000 database and a SQL Server 2005 database that it should function properly. While we cannot guarantee functionality, we will assist you as far as we can should you wish to attempt it.
Q. Will threeMessenger work with my Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger account?
A. No. threeMessenger is a closed system designed specifically for organizations and companies who want to benefit from Instant Messaging without the worry of members spending company time messaging friends or relatives or possibly introducing viruses using the file tranfrer feature of public Instant Messaging solutions like Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger.
